Don’t Miss These Deals! 40%-60% Deals on Frozen Chicken, Save 42% with Steelhead Trout!

Apologies for taking a couple of weeks off! We are dealing with so many product comparisons each week that took some time to improve our dashboards to find you the best deals out there each week. We’ve seen average Wholesale prices falling recently and that is likely leading to fewer deals out there, especially excess products and the corresponding fresh to frozen deals.

There are significantly fewer deals in Beef and Pork, which with being the only categories rising in price could mean that we see less supply while demand stays consistent. There are still some deals if you look at different brands. On the Produce side, almost all of your deals are in Odds and Ends.

We also know that restaurant operators don’t always want to change their main vendor. All of the opportunities below are from within single distributors! So here are the deals this week:

tl;dr

  • We continue to see Brand deals in almost every category, so take some time to compare your current order guide. Fresh to Frozen deals are few and far between and mainly limited to Chicken and Dairy.  Produce deals continue to be mainly in Odds & Ends, so if the differences work for you then you have some opportunity.

  • Standard discounts this week. You can find deals of 37-38% from single vendors with similar opportunities across vendors (36-42%).  As usual, even if you are using just one vendor you can find deals.

  • Potential Cash and Carry savings are higher this week (45%), which is heavily driven by lower prices across salmon products. If you have a lot of prepared salmon dishes on your menu, you may want to check out your local Cash and Carry, but otherwise likely not worth it.

Brand

Lots of deals this week were on similar products from different brands. Keeping most attributes consistent, there definitely are trends in several product categories where you can find better deals with some brands than others. Here are the average percent savings on a cost-per-weight basis we are seeing right now:

Frozen

Very few Fresh to Frozen discounts this week. If a frozen option works for you, this can still be a good opportunity to get your normal product at a huge discount, especially fresh to frozen. Frozen product can also give you a buffer with uncertain traffic.

Chicken Wing No Antibiotic Ever Fresh to Frozen 46%
Cheddar Cheese Mild Shredded Fancy Fresh to Frozen 35%

Odds & Ends

There are often price differences when there are different attributes with similar products. The grade, size, source, and a long list of others impact the price. You made decisions on what you would source when you first decided on the menu item, but how often can you check what is going on with prices now? Can you make a slight adjustment to save money without negatively affecting the end dish? Here are some of the products you may want to look at your options this week:

Category Discount
Tomato, Grape Bulk vs Clamshell 56%
Trout Head On Dressed Steelhead vs Rainbow 42%
Potato Yukon Gold #2 vs #1 31%
Pork Chop Bone-In 4 oz vs 5 oz 27%
Red Bell Pepper Hothouse vs Standard 26%
Onion, Red Medium vs Jumbo 20%

Remember, this is all based on normalized price per weight comparison.
