World Without Carbs
My very clever cousin Erica Marcus, who is a food writer for Newsday, the Long Island newspaper, wrote these parody lyrics to Peter and Gordon's 1964 hit song, "World Without Love." If you've forgotten the tune (or never knew it), you can hear it by going to World Without Love. Actually, for some reason I couldn't hear it on my computer. But others have been successful; for instance, our engineer on WOR's morning show, where I will be singing it myself on Monday morning at 6:50 and 8:50. Or, maybe it's on Wednesday that I'll be singing. I am now on the morning show every Monday and Wednesday at those times, but the new segment "Arthur's Early Bird Special," is prerecorded.
World Without Carbs
Lyrics by Erica Marcus, after a song by Peter and Gordon
Please lock me away
And don't allow the day
Here inside, where I hide with my chubbiness
I don't care what they say, I won't stay
In a world without carbs
Pommes de terre Lyonnaise
Spaghetti Bolognese
I'm OK, here I stay with my chubbiness
I don't care what they say, I won't stay
In a world without carbs
So I wait, and in a while
I will see carbs back in style
It may come, I know not when
When it does, I'll eat
So baby until then
Devils food cake
And french fries--hold the steak
I'm OK, here I stay with my chubbiness
I don't care what they say, I won't stay
In a world without carbs
